Day 10 of the Sydney 2000 Olympics Game A day (well, half day) in the Olympic Park. Of course the weather is still bad. Luckily it didn't really rain, but still a bit windy and chilly, just not a perfect day. Anyway row 68 (where I sit) is actually 10 rows below the cauldron, so perhaps you can imagine how much can I watched without a pair of binocular ... Anyway it was the woman discus qualifying, men's 1500m heats, men's long jump qualifying, and women's 100m hurdles. About 3 hours event, I have to admit that it wasn't very exciting, perhaps because of the weather was not perfect, and spectator around me not participate enough. However we still managed to make a 3 whole rounds of wave in the stadium, which is very fun. Anyway I don't want to be detailed on what I did in the park but would like to put down some interesting things that I've experienced: 1.
When waiting for the bus from Roseland, I asked the 4/5 years old boy at
my back (with green and yellow hair and Austraian flag tatoo on his face)
which game is he going to watch.
2. I would like to remind the commentator, when he mentioned about the distance measurment for the discus, "... you can see no tape is use now, as everything is now measure electronticly ... and here is the technical instrument ...". That "technical instrument" is actually called a EDM (Electronic Distance Measurement) total station, by the worldwide Leica company, and I think it is a Wild TC1610 model or above ... ![]() 3. I don't know where had the commentator been the night before, but when he said "... now back to disco ... discus ..." did give us a laugh. Tell me you did it in purpose. 4. The cauldron is actually constantly producing some medium level of noise. ------------------------------------------------------- Cathy Freeman's 400m final is definately breath taking. I was really worry that what would happen if she couldn't make it. Just the amount of pressure that was on her shoulder, especially lighing the cauldron, is unmeasureable. Anyway, thanks God that she won, she should be feeling a lot relax now. ![]() -----------------------------------------------------
